Pokemon Legends Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Gameplay (Story)
At the start of the game, three starter Pokémon are available: Chikorita and Totodile (from Gold and Silver), and Tepig (from Black and White). Unlike previous Pokémon games with turn-based combat, Pokémon Legends: Z-A features a real-time combat system that considers the positioning of the player character, their Pokémon, and the timing of moves, allowing Pokémon to move and dodge attacks during battles.
During Pokémon Battles, players can fill a gauge by collecting Mega Energy (obtained by dealing damage to opposing Pokémon) to temporarily Mega Evolve their Pokémon. The duration of Mega Evolution can also be extended by continuing to damage opponents.
New to this title is the ability to launch pre-emptive strikes on opposing trainers in Lumiose City’s Battle Zone during nighttime hours, in the nightly Z-A Royale competition. Opposing trainers can also perform the same technique, stunning your Pokémon for a few seconds.
Side quests appear as bonus cards that players can find and complete to earn points for rank promotion battles, which are also rewarded for defeating enemy trainers.

A Series First: Real-Time Pokémon Battles
Previous Pokémon games featured turn-based battles. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Trainers and their Pokémon move in real time, unleashing moves at the Trainer’s command.
This new battle system introduces mechanics like precise timing for swapping Pokémon or using moves, varying move ranges, areas of effect, and different activation times. This adds a thrilling, action-packed layer to the classic Pokémon RPG experience.
Enter the Wilds of Lumiose City
As part of Lumiose’s urban redevelopment, led by Quasartico Inc., the city includes "wild zones" to help humans and Pokémon coexist.
These areas are built with cutting-edge technology to provide Pokémon habitats. Players can battle wild Pokémon and catch them by throwing Poké Balls.
